ENERGIZE! Students through Healthy Environments

Energize!

Sanitation Infrastructure:

With proper sanitation a luxury most communities simply cannot afford, EACEF seeks to create healthy environments that allow students to reach their full potential. From rainwater tanks to hygiene classes, EACEF employs a combination of sanitation infrastructure and programming to ensure conducive learning environments. Before EACEF's work at Kirimara, students showed clear signs of malnutrition and a lack of sanitary standards.

Health Programming:

Combined with the feeding program, the sanitation initiatives have led to a dramatic decrease of inflictions. A collaboration with the Kenyan government has overseen a successful deworming program, new latrines have begun to combat cholera, and waterborne illness levels have gone down after the introduction of clean drinking sources in water collection tanks. Classes led by Ndoto Mentors have taught girls how to properly deal with coming of age, while school-wide seminars have informed students on the risks of sexually transmitted diseases and how to carry the theme of sanitation to their home lives.
